Chicken shawarma recipe
Chicken shawarma recipe is an Arab dish made with long
ingredients list but with simple and
easy steps. Chicken shawarma is also known as shawurma. it is an on-the-go meal by itself. Chicken shawarma is chicken breast strips marinated in spices
grilled it and packed in a pita with some veggies.

Ingredients needed to make chicken shawarma recipe
- 2 skinless and boneless chicken breast ( cut into thin strips)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt ( as needed).
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil.
Ingredients needed for marinate
- ½ cup curd.
- 2 ½ tablespoon tomato sauce.
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon Paprika.
- 2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/3 teaspoon black pepper powder
- ¼ teaspoon cumin powder.
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- ½ teaspoon green cardamom powder.
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste.
Ingredients needed to make pita
- 2 cups maida.
- Yeast mixture (1 cup milk, ½ teaspoon salt,1 tablespoon yeast).
Ingredients for shawarma sauce
- 1 tablespoon cilantro.
- 2 to 3 garlic cloves.
- 2 teaspoon lemon juice.
- ½ teaspoon paprika powder.
- 1 tablespoon Tahini sauce.
- 2 tablespoon hung curd.
For Serving
- Chopped romaine.
- 1 tomato ( thinly sliced).
- 1 cucumber (thinly sliced).
- 1 onion (sliced).
Step by step process to make chicken shawarma recipe
Step 1 – Rub the
chicken breast with oil, salt, and lemon juice
- Firstly apply a pinch of salt, cooking oil and lemon juice to chicken breast and rub it for 2-3 minutes (rub both sides of chicken breast).
- Then cut the chicken breast into thin strips.

Step 2 – Marinate the chicken.
- Take one large bowl and add chicken strips, curd, tomato sauce, onion powder, Paprika, garam masala powder, black pepper powder, cumin powder, cinnamon powder, green cardamom powder, ginger garlic paste and mix all the ingredients well.
- Keep it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 3 – Grill the chicken
- Heat the grill pan on medium flame and sprinkle oil and add chicken strips one by one and grill it for 5 to 6 minutes until chicken strips turns into golden brown.
- Remove the chicken strips in one bowl and keep aside.

Step 4 – Preparation for pita
- Take one large bowl and add 2 cups maida then add yeast the mixture in maida and knead it and make a smooth dough.
- Keep it aside by covering lid (keep it 30 minutes by covering lid).
- After 30 minutes take the dough and make 2 small portion (make a small ball).
- Then roll out each ball into a round roti style (not thin like roti).
- Heat the Tawa on medium flame and cook it from both sides until light brown spot appears.
- Our pita bread is ready.

Step 5 – Preparation for the sauce
- Mix cilantro, garlic cloves, lemon juice, paprika powder, tahini sauce and hung curd in a blender.
- The sauce is ready.

Step 6 –Final recipe
- For serving I used pita.
- Take pita to apply the sauce and fill the grilled chicken, sliced tomato, sliced cucumber, sliced onion, and chopped romaine and top up with sauce and roll the pita.
- Chicken shawarma is ready to serve.

Serving suggestion
Chicken shawarma is also served with tortilla or naan ( I used
pita for serving).
