This delicious schezwan chicken is also known as Szechuan Chicken, Sichuan chicken and this is a famous Chinese style dish we found in Chinese restaurants. The perfect harmony of spiciness and sweetness that is ready in half an hour and it is perfect for weeknight dinner.

Homemade schezwan sauce or store-bought schezwan sauce?
I strongly recommend you to use homemade schezwan sauce. But you don’t have time to make schezwan sauce at home then you can use store-bought schezwan sauce.

How to make schezwan sauce?
Schezwan sauce is quick and easy to make at home. Ingredients and step by step instructions to make schezwan sauce as follows.
Ingredients for schezwan sauce
  • 30 to 32 dried red chilies.
  • 3 ½ tablespoon ginger-garlic paste.
  • 6 tablespoon cooking oil or sesame oil.
  • 1 cup chopped onions.
  • 2 cup water  (1 1/2 cup water for soak chilies and ½ cup for sauce ).
  • 1 ½ soy sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper powder.
  • 2 ½ tablespoon tomato sauce.
  • 1 ½ tablespoon sugar.
  • Salt (to taste).

Process to make homemade Schezwan sauce
  1. Soak the red chilies in hot water for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  2. After 30 minutes add it in a blender and make a fine paste.
  3. Then heat the pan on medium flame and add oil once the oil is hot then add ginger garlic paste and sauté it.
  4. Add onions and fry until they turn transparent.
  5. Then add chili paste, sugar, and salt and sauté it for 2 to 3 minutes and pour a half a cup of water and mix it 
  6. And cook it by covering lid (cook until the oil begins separate).
  7. Then add soy sauce, lemon juice, and tomato sauce  mix it well and cook it for another 2 minutes.
  8. Homemade Schezwan the sauce is ready.
  9. Wait until it cool completely and store it in a glass container.


               Schezwan Chicken Recipe
Ingredients To Make Schezwan Chicken
3 boneless and skinless chicken breast (cubed into bite-size pieces).
Ingredients for marinating
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoon cornflour.
  • 2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste.
  • 3 ½ tablespoon soy sauce.
  • 2 teaspoon black pepper powder.
  • 3 tablespoon sesame oil.
  • 2 teaspoon coriander powder.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder.
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder.
  • Salt to taste.

Other ingredients

  • Oil (for deep frying).
  • 2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste.
  • ½ tablespoon spring onion (chopped).
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ tablespoon vinegar.
  •   3 teaspoon red chili sauce.
  • 2 teaspoon green chili sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce.
  • 2 tablespoon schezwan sauce.
  • 2 teaspoon cornflour.
  • 1 cup Water.
  • Salt to taste.

Ingredients for garnish
  • Spring onion (chopped).
  • Green chilies ( chopped).

Step By Step Process To Make Schezwan Chicken
  1. Firstly,  take one large bowl and add chicken, egg,  cornflour, ginger garlic paste,  soy sauce,  black pepper powder,  sesame oil, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, salt mix all the ingredients and keep it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  2. Heat the frying pan and add oil once the oil is hot then add chicken pieces one by one and fry until it turns browned and crispy.
  3. Once the chicken is cooked then remove it and keep aside.
  4. Then remove the oil from the pan, leaving only 2 tablespoons once oil is hot then add ginger garlic paste and sauté it on medium flame after that add spring onion and sauté it for a minute.
  5. Then add soy sauce, vinegar, red chili sauce, green chili sauce, tomato sauce   and schezwan sauce and mix all the sauce and cook it for 5 minutes.
  6. Make a corn flour batter by adding water in it and add it in gravy stir and mix well.
  7. Then add fried chicken in sauce and mix it well and cook it for 7 to 8 minutes.
  8. Schezwan chicken is ready to serve.
  9. Remove the schezwan chicken in serving bowl garnish with chopped spring onions and chopped green chilies.
  10. Serve it with noodles.

  • Fry the chicken in batches if needed.
