What is chicken do pyaza

Do pyaza means onion being used in two ways for making this recipe.  This recipe is more popular in Muslim and basically made with chicken and onion. It is famous Punjabi chicken dish chicken is cooked in onion and tomato gravy along with spices ( spices give nice aromatic flavor and taste).

Ingredients needed to make chicken do pyaza recipe

Main ingredients

  • 500 gm chicken breast ( bite-size sliced).
  • 3 onion chopped.
  • Onion petals ( 1 onion).

Ingredients for marination

  • Salt to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste.
  • 1 ½  teaspoon chili powder.
  • 3 teaspoon lemon juice.

Ingredients for curd masala

  • 1 ½  cup curd.
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder.
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric.
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder.
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder.

Other ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon oil.
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder.
  • 2 ½ teaspoon ginger garlic paste.
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric.
  • 1 cup of tomato puree.
  • Tomato cubes (1 medium size).
  • 2 to 3 green chilies (lengthwise sliced).
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves ( finely chopped).
  • ½ cup of water.
  • Salt to taste.

Step by step process to make chicken do pyaza

Step 1 preparation for marination

  • Take one large bowl and add chicken, Salt to taste, ginger garlic paste, chili powder, and  lemon juice and mix all the ingredients well.
  • Keep aside for 30 minutes.

Step 2 preparation for curd masala

  • Take another small bowl and add curd, chili powder, turmeric,  coriander powder, and cumin powder and mix it well.
  • Keep aside.

Step 3 final recipe

  • Take one pan and heat it on medium flame add oil once the oil is getting hot then add cumin seeds and chopped onion and cook until onion turns golden brown.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and turmeric  powder mix it well
  • Immediately add tomato puree and salt mix it well and cook  till oil released from tomato (stir continuously).
  • Then add curd masala mixture in it and mix it ( stir continuously).
  • Cook until oil released.
  • Then add marinated chicken mix it well and cook it for 15 minutes on medium flame.
  • After that add water and cook it for 20 minutes or until chicken is tender by covering lid (stir in between).  
  • After that remove the lid and add garam masala, green chilies, onion petals and tomato cubes mix it well and cook it for 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Chicken do pyaza is ready to serve
  • Remove it in a serving bowl and garnish with chopped coriander.
  • And serve it.

Serving suggestions

  • Serve this delicious and spicy chicken do pyaza with naan, roti or steamed plain rice.
